For fellow overlanders using this blog for research here our some tips about Libya which you may find useful: 1) To travel in Libya you need a guide to be present with you at all times.  As we weren't able to book a package tour we arrange our own guide through Farhat - farhatgahuagi@yahoo.com.  If you email him he will be able to sort out the guide, the visas and the car insurance.  Having a guide makes it expensive to travel in Libya, but once you are there, food and petrol is dirt cheap. 2) Make sure you find a guide that is willing to camp and you may need to provide a tent for them.  We bought a pop-up tent in France for our guide, Bedram. 3) Petrol is…

Location: Marsa Matruh, Egypt (N31 21.563 E27 13.410) Miles travelled: 597 miles (over three days) Weather: 30ºC - Hot, hot, hot Today we mostly listened to: Dan Brown, The Lost Symbol We haven't been able to update the blog for a few days because of the lack of internet facilities in Libya, but it's been an eventful few. We left Ajdabiya and headed on the long desert road to Tobruk. The landscape was dry and flat and for long periods of time we didn't see another car on the road. Location: Ajdabiya (N30 47.303 E20 13.717) Miles travelled: Day 16 = 240 / Day 17 = 310 Weather: 30ºC - Stormy and hot Today we mostly listened to: A variety of "Dad Rock" The last couple of days have been a mixture of some awesome sights and some less awesome landscapes.  We visited the arch of Marcus Aurelius in the centre of Tripoli and after a short trip to the supermarket to get some supplies we headed for the Roman ruins of Leptis Magna.  It really is a rather awesome place, particularly the Roman theatre where you can get a view of the entire city and beautiful blue sea in the background.  There were a few coach loads of tourists there, but not that many (I don't think Libya is…
